The Södermalm district committee is reviewing an application for an alcohol serving license for the restaurant Casa Hallmans at Timmermansgatan 20. The administration proposes that the application be granted, which means the restaurant will be permitted to serve alcohol to the public Monday through Sunday between 11:00 AM and midnight.

The Liberal Party proposes more summer pedestrian streets and squares to create a livelier and more attractive urban environment in Stockholm, benefiting local businesses, pedestrians, and cyclists. The Södermalm district administration supports this but emphasizes the need for early involvement in planning, especially concerning greenery and waste management, while ensuring public transport accessibility and dialogue with residents and businesses.
The motion proponents, Annika Elmlund and Christoffer Hökmark (M), propose that Stockholm should introduce so-called "safety kiosks" to enhance city security. These kiosks would function as small police stations, but also be staffed by guards and field assistants to increase local presence and coordination of safety initiatives. The Södermalm District Committee agrees that safety efforts need strengthening but believes existing methods, such as activating priority areas and reinforcing inter-agency cooperation, should be further developed instead.
A motion has been put forward by Andréa Hedin (M) to LGBTQ+-certify home care services in Stockholm. The mover believes that older LGBTQ+ individuals worry about future care and that their homes should be safe spaces where no one has to hide their identity. The Södermalm district administration agrees this is an important issue and states they are already working to strengthen expertise on LGBTQ+ issues and conduct within elderly care, including through training, and are awaiting the city's upcoming LGBTQ+ diploma training for organizations.
A motion by Therese Lindström (M) proposes permanently opening a northbound lane on Skanstullsbron to car traffic to reduce queues and ease commuting between Hammarby Sjöstad, southern Stockholm, and Södermalm. However, the Södermalm district administration lacks the expertise to assess traffic flows but stresses that any traffic solution must align with the city's Accessibility Strategy, which prioritizes high-capacity transport and increased reliability for all road users. The administration notes that the ongoing reconstruction of Skansbron, which caused current traffic issues, is nearing completion and will soon see two-way traffic resume.
Members of the Moderate Party, Annika Elmlund and Johan Nilsson, propose that Stockholm should invest in more "pocket parks" and green walls to improve the city's pleasantness and quality of life. This means creating small, green spaces and plant-covered walls in both new residential areas and existing locations within the city. The Södermalm district administration is positive towards these proposals, believing they contribute to a greener and more pleasant city, which is particularly important for children, but emphasizes that pocket parks cannot replace larger parks.
The Södermalm District Council has commented on Stockholm City's revised food strategy, "Good Food for Health, Climate, and Environment." The administration is positive towards the new food program aiming to make the city's meals more sustainable, healthy, and safe, including ensuring food in preschools, schools, and elder care is tasty, nutritious, and at least 70% organic (with a goal of 100% organic dairy products). The program also seeks to reduce the climate impact of food, strengthen the city's crisis preparedness, and encourage Stockholmers to choose more sustainable food options.
The City Audit has reviewed safety at Stockholm's youth recreation centers, including those in Södermalm. They assess the work as generally good but see room for improvement, particularly regarding the documentation of background checks for new hires and the follow-up with external recreation centers. Södermalm's district council has responded that they will strengthen their work on background checks, child welfare reports, local collaboration with the police and social services, and improve the follow-up of all recreation centers, whether they are run internally or externally.
The City Planning Office has proposed a new detailed development plan for the property Kålroten 3 at Nytorget 6-8 in Södermalm. The plan aims to enable a 3D property formation, allowing commercial premises within the building to be separated from residential units. This could provide tax advantages for the housing cooperative, as it may then be considered a "genuine" housing cooperative.
The Södermalm District Administration has no objections to the proposal as it does not involve any physical changes to the building or affect their operations. The matter will now be handled by the City Planning Office.
The Södermalm district administration has commented on a detailed development plan proposal for the property Bonden Större 43 at Skånegatan 63–65. The plan suggests adding one floor to the existing building for seven new rental apartments, three-story townhouses on the elevated courtyard, and new retail or restaurant spaces. The administration is positive overall, viewing the proposal as contributing to a greener urban environment and an active streetscape, but wishes for an investigation into ways to reduce potential shadow effects on neighboring properties from the new construction.
The Stockholm City Council will decide on a local action program for Strömmen river. The program aims to improve water quality and the habitat for animals and plants in Strömmen, which currently has poor ecological and chemical status due to pollution from traffic, wastewater, and old port areas, among other sources. Measures include purifying stormwater, managing contaminated bottom sediments, and improving the physical habitat. The costs are estimated to be hundreds of millions of kronor and will be financed in various ways, including through water and wastewater fees and the city's budget.
The Södermalm District Council will approve a new version of its local information security directive, which outlines how the administration manages and protects information. This clarifies responsibilities and procedures to ensure residents' data is safe and all employees are trained in information security. The updated directive also includes procedures for handling incidents, like data breaches and suspected phishing emails, and requirements from the new cybersecurity law.
The Södermalm District Council has approved its 2025 annual report and financial statements, showing a surplus of SEK 58.2 million. The administration assesses that they have met the City Council's goals in areas such as welfare, climate, and economy. The council is requesting reallocations for several investments, including SEK 1 million for the Tantolunden playground, SEK 1.5 million for climate investments in Tantolunden, and SEK 0.7 million for safety measures on Maria Prästgårdsgata.
A resident proposed installing a very long notice board at Tullhusen on Skeppsbron, so people could post notices there instead of directly on the buildings. However, the Södermalm district administration advises against the proposal. They believe the location is too narrow for both pedestrians and cyclists, and that a notice board would obstruct accessibility and the management of Tullhusen.
A resident proposed improvements to the area around the memorial for Stockholm's last shipyard by the London Viaduct, suggesting the removal of bushes, the addition of paving stones, a bench, a waste bin, and a historical sign. The district administration agrees the site needs enhancement and plans to remove the bushes, pave the area, and install a historical sign in 2026. While space for a bench is unavailable, a waste bin will be placed nearby.
A resident proposed installing signs on Rosenlundsgatan in Södermalm to inform about an old country road and tobacco barns that were once in the area. The administration believes a historical information board in Ånghästparken would be of interest to residents and suggests exploring the possibility of funding such a board in the 2026 or 2027 budget. The board could cover the country road, tobacco barns, and other historical facts about the area.
The Södermalm District Council proposes to reclaim the right to decide on kindergarten closures from the School Director. Starting February 19, 2026, the council itself will make decisions regarding kindergarten closures, regardless of the reason or duration. This represents a change in the council's internal delegation of authority.
Södermalm District Council received six citizen proposals in January 2026. These included requests for more tennis courts, a roller skating rink at Åsö School, and more efficient training times on football fields. Other proposals were for watering cans with the city's logo for preschools and schools, raising the road to sidewalk level on Ringvägen, and planting trees along Folkungagatan.
André Nilsson (L) proposed that the city investigate creating an artificial surf wave in Slussen to boost recreation, tourism, and activity in the city center. While previous studies confirmed technical feasibility, further investigations into safety, environmental impact, and economics were deemed necessary, as the wave must not disrupt Slussen's vital water regulation and boat traffic functions. The Municipal Board ultimately rejected advancing with a new investigation, citing these uncertainties and the need for more funding, despite acknowledging the inherent appeal of the idea.
This status report details Stockholm Vatten AB’s major project, "Stockholm’s Future Wastewater Treatment" (SFA), which aims to upgrade and expand Stockholm's wastewater treatment. The project, which includes closing the Bromma treatment plant and doubling the capacity of the Henriksdal plant, is on schedule and within budget, expected to be fully completed by 2031. It will manage wastewater for approximately 1.6 million people and meet stricter environmental requirements.
